Armory Chamber (In the Kremlin)

On the territory of the Kremlin there is one of the oldest museums of Kremlin – the Armory. It was built in 1844-1851 under the design of architect Konstantine Thon. In the second half of the 16 th – early 18 th century it was in charge of marketing, purchasing and storing of weapons, jewelry and utensils.
In 1806 the Armory was transformed into a museum with unique collection of Russisn, West Euripean and oriental applied arts of the 5 th -early 20 th centuries: articles ornamented with engraving, black enamel, and enamel, embroidery with gold and pearls, golden and silver crockery, tsar's regalia, vestments of tsars and tsarinas. The Armory houses an exhibition of the Treasure of Russia. Here one can see the rarest stones and jewelry, golden nuggets as well as symbols of the tsar's power – an orb, a scepter and a crown.
