Visit to Alexandro-Nevskaya Abbey
It is the oldest architectural ensemble of the 18 th century. The monastery was founded by Peter I in 1710 to commemorate Novgorodian Prince Alexander Nevsky who defeated the Swedes in 1240 on the Neva riverside and was colonized by Russian Orthodox Church. In 1797 the Monastery was given the title of Laura, the highest rank of Orthodox monasticism. The monastery commonness the Tikhvin and Lazarus cemeteries where the outstanding figures of Russian culture as Dostoevsky and Tchaikovsky are buried.
